Hey there. I am a major video game fan and have been playing them since I can remember. I am not a very picky gamer and in fact have found myself able to embrace most games despite reviews given by popular reviewers or critics. I am very new at this and do not expect a large audience but feel free to give any feedback or take my opinions into consideration. I plan on doing games I have very much enjoyed that are both new and old that people may have missed out on or were wondering about. Enjoy.
The Force Unleashed seemed like a fair choice to start with since it is one of my favorite games and has a sequel coming out this year. I am a huge Star Wars fan and this games seemed like it was going to be a lot of fun for any other SW's fans out there and it did not disappoint. I know many criticisms have been that the game is slightly hack and slash, linear, and by no means has an epic story line but I found all of these criticisms to work well for the game. It is at first glance a hack and slash game but as it develops and you progress it gains a great deal of flow to the combat systems were you can weave together a wonderful combination of lightsaber attacks, force lightning blasts, and force push blasts into a tornado of destruction on whatever stormtrooper or droid is unlucky enough to get in your way. Star Wars had yet to have a game that truly shows the potential with the force and Force Unleashed says it all in the title. The designers clearly wanted to take that potential and run with it because your abilities become borderline absurd as you gain level and this just makes it all the more fun. Nothing is more fun than being able to hurl ten stormtroopers through the air or blast a rancor down to ashes with force lightning. The amount of detail and the physics make using the powers all the more fun. The combat and game play gets an A+ in the fun department in my book. Next would be the story line. Clearly it is no epic novel and Lucas Arts is by no means Bioware, but I in all honesty found myself being drawn into the story and connecting with the main character. The characters are limited to a few but are developed very well and fit the Star Wars ideals. You have Darth Vader and the Emperor on one side showing the dark extremes and Master Kota and the Rebellion on one side. Your character of course has a droid side kick who provides comic relief and a love interest for the occasional awkward sexual tension and symbol of hope. You follow your character as he oscillates between evil sith apprentice to jedi master in the making. The character development is a solid B and the story line will get a B+, not epic but it will captivate your attention if you are a story fan or star wars fan. The scenery and linear game design is well created. It gives a good feel for the SW universe and though I prefer sandbox to linear it works really well. You need some guidance to move you along as you cut your way through thouands of whatever it is in your way. The enemies are plentiful but not overwhelming and it switches up the different kinds of enemies so they don't feel to repetitive, minus the obscene amount of stormtroopers but in my opinion I never got tired of tossing them around with an array of force powers.
This review is short and sweet and poorly written in the grammar department, but again its my first and I hope everyone who reads it likes it. If your a fan of the game I think I hit all the good points and if you have never played the game and this review sounds appealing give it a shot its a lot of fun. I will be posting more reviews each week. Thanks for reading and have a good one.
